TEACHING ENGLISH IN NEPAL

Most of the time, volunteers in the teaching sector work as instructors of English of small school children. Teaching in Nepali schools as volunteers is very charming, fulfilling and rewarding. Teaching placements are available in both public and private boarding schools. English teaching volunteers do not necessarily be native English speakers. Fluent English speakers with or without formal teaching experience may also contribute greatly to the children’s educational development. Our teaching placements are available in various schools of Kathmandu, The main resources that you will have in classroom are a blackboard, book and a peace of chalk. Of course, you yourself are the most reliable resource for English teaching in Nepal. As a CSDN volunteer you will give your students career chances a boost and watching them grow during your time overseas. You will have the opportunity to gain the confidence of the students and their guardians thereby becoming like a member of the local community.

Teaching placement is not available in July and August in any other area outside of the Katmandu valley because of summer vacation. CSDN may arrange teaching placements in nearby villages of Katmandu Valley during July and August. Most of the schools in Nepal follow a fixed English curriculum for English. Volunteers will teach courses in collaboration with local English teachers. Many of our past volunteers have also organized informal English classes in local villages.

Your Activities as a Volunteer:

As a volunteer, you will work in public school with boys and girls in a class size of about 20 to 35. Volunteer teach 2-3 hours a day, Monday to Saturday, working with children ranging in age from 6-15. Also, volunteers may be asked to teach English in a variety of schools and assist Nepal’s most destitute citizens. Along with English lessons, you may teach other skills like game, painting, music, sanitation, computers and arts. Most schools in Nepal follow fixed courses for teaching English. Volunteers teach school courses in collaboration with local

English teachers

English teaching prior experience is desired but not mandatory for English teaching volunteers. They need to have good communication skill in English but need not necessarily be a native. Volunteers are required to have strong eagerness to help the people of Nepal. Volunteers should also be flexible, self-motivated, open to new cultures and a strong willingness to learn and take new initiatives.
